“Black babies in the womb are shackled, and bound.
Bounded by hatred that keeps beauty down…”
Gil Scott-Heron wrote these prophetic lyrics more than forty years ago.
That deep baritone voice offering various messages that are STILL relevant!
He leaves behind a body of work sharing thoughts as poet, fiction writer, musician, and Artist who labeled himself a bluesologist.
We miss him…
His easy laugh in conversation, and warmth as a human being.
Some of Gil’s favorite things; reading, playing chess, eating blueberry muffins, and trying to figure out a way of taking all of his children to Jamaica in 1989.
We hear his spirit..
A calling command for love, and healing…
The power of the Word in WINTER IN AMERICA-
“Now, more than ever, ALL THE FAMILY MUST COME TOGETHER.
EVERY BROTHER, EVERYWHERE…feel the time(from the intro),
“Common blood flows through common veins… Common eyes all see the same.
NOW, MORE THAN EVER, ALL THE FAMILY MUST BE TOGETHER!”
How prophetic are these words now during this time, and place?
The open soul of a young man.
A Southern Gentleman at heart.
Rest in peace, Gil.
